Reusable Fabric Wrap
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reusable Fabric Gift Wrap?
Reusable fabric gift wrap is a sustainable alternative to traditional paper gift wrap.
Made from a durable fabric, it can be reused multiple times, offering an eco-friendly
solution for gift wrapping. At Nicholas & Rose we use beautiful cotton.
What is Furoshiki?
Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese technique using a single square of fabric to wrap, decorate, and transport goods. At Nicholas & Rose, we elevate this ancient practice by using premium, sustainably sourced fabrics that turn the wrapping into a gift in itself.

How do I explain Furoshiki to the person I am gifting?
We recommend including a small note or one of our "How to Reuse" tags to explain the concept to the recipient. This helps them understand that the wrap is a sustainable alternative to paper and encourages them to join the circular gifting movement.
What size is each fabric wrap?
As a general rule, your Furoshiki cloth should be approximately three times the size of the object you are wrapping.
At Nicholas & Rose we offer 3 different sizes:
- Normal (50 x 50cm cm): Perfect for jewelry, soap bars, or small books.
- Large (60 x 60 cm): Ideal for wine bottles, standard books, or clothing.
- X Large (70 x 70cm+): Best for toy boxes, larger electronics, or hampers.
If your gift is smaller, simply fold the fabric to create a more compact wrap. For a unique touch, try tying the ends into a bow or knot.
What makes fabric gift wrap sustainable?
Reusable fabric gift wrap is considered sustainable for several reasons:
Reduces Waste: Unlike traditional single-use wrapping paper, fabric can be used multiple times, significantly reducing waste in landfills.
Conserves Resources: By using the same fabric for multiple gifts, you're conserving the resources needed to produce new wrapping materials.
Eco-Friendly Materials: Many reusable fabric wraps are made from sustainable materials like organic cotton or recycled fabrics, further minimizing environmental impact.
Creative Outlet: Reusable fabric often offers a more creative and personalized way to wrap gifts, encouraging unique and thoughtful presentations.
Versatility: Reusable fabric can be used for various purposes, such as scarves, tablecloths, or even small pouches, extending its lifespan and utility.
Overall, reusable fabric gift wrap provides a practical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wrapping paper, contributing to a more sustainable gifting practice.
Why should I choose fabric gift wrap over paper?
Fabric gift wrap is the superior eco-friendly choice because it eliminates the "unrecyclable" waste of plastic-coated or glittered paper and can be reused for a lifetime.
While most wrapping paper ends up in landfills after one use, our wraps become a circular part of your gifting tradition.

Do I need tape or scissors to use Nicholas & Rose wraps?
No, you do not need tape, scissors, or glue to use our fabric wraps; they are designed to be secured entirely through simple folding and knotting techniques. This makes the wrapping process faster, mess-free, and much more creative than traditional methods.
Should I ask for the gift wrap back?
It’s up to you! Some people may want to keep it for future use, while others may be
happy to return it.
You can kindly ask, or offer it as part of the gift for the recipient to
reuse.
Careful personalisation may make this more apparent - why not embroider both names on the fabric so that you easily pass back and forth at each occassion.
How should I care for the gift wrap?
Our gift wrap is made from durable fabric that can be easily cleaned. Simply hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle.
Can I iron it?
Yes, you can iron your reusable fabric gift wrap on a low heat setting.
Can I use these wraps for things other than gifting?
Absolutely; our Furoshiki wraps are incredibly versatile and can be repurposed as neck scarves, table napkins, lunch bags (bento wraps), or even framed as textile art. Their high-end design ensures they look beautiful in any context.
Is the wrap part of the gift, or should I ask for it back?
The choice is yours: you can either gift the wrap as a "two-in-one" present or politely ask for it back to reuse for your next occasion. In the UK, it is becoming increasingly common to say, "I'm trying to be more eco-friendly, so I'll take the wrap back once you've opened it!"
Are Nicholas & Rose fabric wraps washable?
Yes, our wraps are fully machine washable; we recommend a gentle 30°C cycle with similar colours to maintain the fabric's integrity. For our cotton wraps, a quick steam iron after washing will return them to their crisp, luxurious finish.
Can I personalise my reusable gift wrap?
Yes, we offer bespoke embroidery and personalisation services on our wraps to help you create a unique family tradition. Adding a name or a special date makes the Furoshiki a sentimental keepsake that can be passed back and forth between loved ones for years.
What materials are Nicholas & Rose wraps made from?
Our wraps are handcrafted in the UK using high-quality, natural fibers like cotton and linen, chosen for their durability and "grip" when knotting. We prioritize tactile luxury to ensure the wrap feels as special as the gift inside.
